For Intermediate Level participants attending all the weekend breaks,
I will endeavour at all times to add exercises to challenge everyone whatever your fitness level. All the exercises can be adapted to the
most advanced level if necessary. Likewise, for those attending who
have had injuries or other challenging conditions all exercises can be modified to suit the individual. The more information you give me, before and during your stay, the better able I am to meet your requirements.

PILATES AND YOGA WEEKEND

With Val Conway and Chrissie Tucker
Friday 26 to Sunday 29th September

Chrissie and Val both work with small groups and individuals in Argyll. Here, on the Isle of Coll, they will share their unique and holistic approaches to their respective disciplines.

ABOUT VAL...
Val has been teaching Pilates for 2 years. Prior to that, she practiced therapeutic massage. Val has, 20 years of experience working in therapeutic environments in Social Services, the private sector and the NHS. The Body Control Pilates teaching course is the most rigorous Pilates training available in the UK today. The style of delivery places emphasis on treating participants very much as individuals. We only have small classes and we also sometimes use hands on techniques to enable you to get the most out of the teaching. Our classes are relaxed and friendly and although we take the Pilates seriously I hope that I do not take myself too seriously!

I am enthused by my lovely clients and many inspiring teachers, including Lynn Robinson, the leading Pilates Guru recently awarded one of the most influential women in London accolades. I am also inspired by Elizabeth Larkham, a second generation Pilates master and protégé of Romana Kryanowska, the teacher who was chosen by Joseph Pilates to carry on his work.

ABOUT CHRISSIE...
Chrissie Tucker has been teaching Yoga for over 25 years. Her teaching is sensitive, intuitive encouraging lightness and supple movement in the body, centeredness and relaxation. She loves exploring and bringing the practice of Yoga alive to people of all abilities, any age or level of experience. She has teaching certificates from the Scottish Yoga Teachers Association and the Yoga of the Heart School. She has been and continues to be inspired by many teachers, including Angela Farmer, Jenny Beeken, Sophy Hoare and Diane Long.

Therapeutic massage is available on Sunday by arrangement.

Therapeutic massage is conducted in a warm private room. The therapist will take a short history first. The client may undress for the massage and usually lies on the couch covered in towels and blankets to maintain heat, comfort and privacy throughout. Massage is excellent in relaxing the mind and the body and compliments both Yoga and Pilates

ITINERARY

FRIDAY - DAY 1

PILATES WITH VAL CONWAY
Take the Friday CalMac ferry to Coll, departing Oban at 0600 and arriving on Coll at 1030. Dolphins and other cetaceans are frequently seen on this stunning journey into the west - this ferry goes via the neighbouring island of Tiree. You will be greeted at the pier and driven to the Hebridean Centre at Ballyhough, arriving at about 1100. After an introductory welcome you will be given a standard Body Control Pilates form to fill in that will contain all your personal details, so that we can cater for your individual needs throughout the weekend. All information held is strictly confidential.

1200 - 1300 THE BASICS OF PILATES
We will be focusing on the basics. After your long journey there will be an emphasis on breathing, relaxation, and alignment.

1300 - 1430 LUNCH
A long lunch-break will enable participants to take their packed lunches down to the nearby Traigh Hough  - this really is an amazingly gorgeous beach!

1500 - 1700   PILATES WORKSHOP
Depending on who is here, this extended class may incorporate props like Pilates Circle, small balls and bands, foam rollers or the Swiss ball. The second part of the Workshop will be faster paced with and emphasis on flow and stamina.

1800  EVENING MEAL
1930 - 2030   CLASSICAL PILATES CLASS / RELAXATION

Although the weekend includes attendance of all these classes, remember that you do not have to attend everything! If you feel like more time to yourself, why not take time out, explore the environs of Ballyhough, have a power walk across the beach or even a swim? Maybe you would like to climb the nearby Ben Hough, the highest hill on Coll to enjoy the panoramic view across the sea of the Hebrides? Or simply relax in the lounge, have a look at some of the books on Pilates and related subjects, enjoy a drink from the Honesty Bar and just get to know your fellow participants!
